Improving Education - Joseph Driessen

 Consult: How do you find the class, topic etc.  Here are some of my takeaways from the session:  Love & Leadership - looking for who is in charge. Need the balance.  Regular team talks - They are on a winning team.  Positive talk to the team. 90% positive.  "You can do better than that"  Hard Work in class brings the same mana as out on the sport field.  Whats your Job? To work at school as a student. - Work Ethic  Have you taken pride in your work that you have completed. - and put a sticker on in.  Criteria Tick Sheet for what they need so they don't skip  Points per tick, with the possibility of failer.  The fail will be harsher if you don't apply now.  When correcting 1. Stay Calm 2. Relect together  "let me help you" 3. Coach you $. Can you make it up to me.  Restorative Consequences 1. Apology (Verba & Written)  2. Job  3. Building Our Graduate Profile

Small Diagram on the 3 aspects of our Graduate Profile Went over 3 Strands/Aspects - PB4L, Skills & Whanatanga (Family culture/sharing)  In our meeting, we brainstormed what skills we thought our students need to develop through their time at Monrad and activities that would enforce these skills. Creating Goals for Cultural Responsiveness

In our staff meeting, we had a hui over what our goals are going into this term and beyond. For me, I have very simple greetings and farewells under my belt in Maori but I am eager to grow language beyond this, and having longer phrases will help build reach my goal and also something that I can implement straight away.

Making those steps in Reo

Looking at how to up my Reo, I still am struggling to up my knowledge and the passion isn't always there to pick it up. However in this staff meeting today.. Lewis has shared some good resources that I could print off and have it by my desk in class. Resource link

PB4L Training - Restorative Practice

Today we had a person from the ministry to educate us on restorative practice for our PB4L approach. Key ideas from discussion/Talk: Emotion intensifies or highers our response The relationship can determine students response  How you deal with the problems is more important then what they did.
