During Term 1 the Yr 7 group went on their annual outdoors camp. This was a fantastic opportunity to bond with our students and manage learning in different environments.

Students were often pushed to their limits. High ropes and flying foxes, pushed students to go into the unknown. This was a fantastic opportunity to engage students with life long lessons of over coming fears and challenges.

At times I got to do the activities and show students that I to can get scared of pushed to my limits. I got to be a voice of encouragement too.

Overall, it was a good experience that gave opportunities to enforce and encourage students in more social aspects of learning.

In the picture shown, this is about my third attempt this year to arrange the class in a away that would help students work well together and also when when assigned with individual activities. Discerning students who are likely to jell together and work cooperatively is a skill that is in the process of development. However, the physical classroom is like a working canvas. Quite often I roam other classes to see how other teachers like to arrange their rooms. What I have seen work well through class observations, is having space for small group work, and desk group space. Providing and area for small group work is extremely important as both teacher and student can be in a comfortable space without the feeling of being crammed in like tuna inside a can. This then can set the scene for engaging learning!

Capturing Student Learning using DT

What: Over the last month I have been exploring a new add-on on chrome called 'Screen Castify'. It captures the current action either I or the student is doing. So what: It is a good platform that gets students from the 'user' stage, to the 'creator' stage. Plus it captures what students have learned. Moreover, it helps students grow their communication skills, by having to keep their oral speech engaging. Now what: My goal is to share this with the staff a resource tool for them to use in their classroom. Additionally, I will be using this in my Wednesday group so that students can have a play and build their skills.

Writing From Different Angles

What: During term 3 I am teaching Procedural Writing to my form class. I have chosen to show them an exemplar through the medium of a Crossfit workout. So What : This is my first time teaching this style of writing. I took them through the piece of writing and them got them to do the workout themselves. Now what : Having shown them the instructional piece of writing, they will now understand the practical element of this style of writing. They will now have serval opportunities to write some procedural texts before their final assessment.
