The four C's

What?

On the 20/3/18 I attended a Google event at Noel Leaming PN.

The Google leader shared the importance of the 4 C's
  • critical thinking,
  • communication,
  • collaboration, and
  • creativity.





So what? 
Because our learning environment has changed so much, what is important in our learning has also developed. The 4 C's were not important going back in the 90's, however, they are vital for students as they leave school in today's society.






Side note: The SAMR model is model for the level and skill we are using technology. 

What now? 
Shifting what is important in education is a must. 
The New Tech NZC asks for us to have:

Computational thinking & Design and develop digital outcomes. 

Using technology such as Shepro's and chromebooks is a must in order for us to engage in the new NZC tech

In the picture shown, this is about my third attempt this year to arrange the class in a away that would help students work well together and also when when assigned with individual activities. Discerning students who are likely to jell together and work cooperatively is a skill that is in the process of development. However, the physical classroom is like a working canvas. Quite often I roam other classes to see how other teachers like to arrange their rooms. What I have seen work well through class observations, is having space for small group work, and desk group space. Providing and area for small group work is extremely important as both teacher and student can be in a comfortable space without the feeling of being crammed in like tuna inside a can. This then can set the scene for engaging learning!

Observation Time

Bellow is my reflection of an observation I have had in term 4. Reflective Questions Observation - School-wide Expectations - Teacher Practice What went well? My manner with students was highlighted as very positive. The link from content to the overall project The delivery of content and skills taught were done in a way all students could get onboard with. The hum of work being done by students. Work through your observation notes and record; Deliberate acts of Teaching Outcome ‘Walt’ written and spoken at the start of the lesson. I modeled the task visually thru the tv screen and demoed many tasks they were doing Students understood what they were learning for the lesson. I also linked it back to the previous lesson Students direction was channeled at the task involved. We did a ‘dice’ which everyone familiar with, making the task do-albe for all students. Capturing Student Learning using DT

What: Over the last month I have been exploring a new add-on on chrome called 'Screen Castify'. It captures the current action either I or the student is doing. So what: It is a good platform that gets students from the 'user' stage, to the 'creator' stage. Plus it captures what students have learned. Moreover, it helps students grow their communication skills, by having to keep their oral speech engaging. Now what: My goal is to share this with the staff a resource tool for them to use in their classroom. Additionally, I will be using this in my Wednesday group so that students can have a play and build their skills.
