Being a helper in the Emerging Technological Age

What is it?

As my desire to increase in professional leadership has grown, so has the opportunity to help staff. Gordon Moore said, " Leadership is empowering people to do what they have been called to do". So what I've seen that I could do to empower people is to share my knowledge and experience in digital technologies.

This was my second time running a small workshop with colleagues, where I showed them how to use 'New Google Sites". 




So what?
As part of our new digital curriculum, one of the two aspects is; “Designing and developing digital outcomes. It is about understanding that digital systems and applications are created for humans by humans, and developing knowledge and skills in using different digital technologies to create digital content across a range of digital media. This part of the curriculum also includes learning about the electronic components and techniques used to design digital devices."

 Google Sites is a digital system where users use it to create digital content. I guided staff in how to create their own teacher's portfolio. By staff using it themselves, it will make their teaching more meaningful if they see the use of it themselves. 

 What now? 
My next steps are to continue supporting staff that are seeking to use DT more in their class. Also, another step is also to come up with more resources that are going to support staff in their class.

In the picture shown, this is about my third attempt this year to arrange the class in a away that would help students work well together and also when when assigned with individual activities. Discerning students who are likely to jell together and work cooperatively is a skill that is in the process of development. However, the physical classroom is like a working canvas. Quite often I roam other classes to see how other teachers like to arrange their rooms. What I have seen work well through class observations, is having space for small group work, and desk group space. Providing and area for small group work is extremely important as both teacher and student can be in a comfortable space without the feeling of being crammed in like tuna inside a can. This then can set the scene for engaging learning!

Capturing Student Learning using DT

What: Over the last month I have been exploring a new add-on on chrome called 'Screen Castify'. It captures the current action either I or the student is doing. So what: It is a good platform that gets students from the 'user' stage, to the 'creator' stage. Plus it captures what students have learned. Moreover, it helps students grow their communication skills, by having to keep their oral speech engaging. Now what: My goal is to share this with the staff a resource tool for them to use in their classroom. Additionally, I will be using this in my Wednesday group so that students can have a play and build their skills.

How do I develop positive relationships with students? Inside class: I use current slang/jargon: E.g Hori, High fives (Yr7s), talk about my weekend/interests. Whenever I start a rotation I into what I'm interested in (Sing, dance, guitar). I talk about my wedding coming up. Crack jokes. Outside class: I'm really the same outside the class. I'll shoot hops sometimes when I'm on duty. Have a joke around with them (but there is a line, and they should know it). Resource from the session: What area can I/we work on?
