Being a helper in the Emerging Technological Age

What is it? As my desire to increase in professional leadership has grown, so has the opportunity to help staff. Gordon Moore said, " Leadership is empowering people to do what they have been called to do". So what I've seen that I could do to empower people is to share my knowledge and experience in digital technologies. This was my second time running a small workshop with colleagues, where I showed them how to use 'New Google Sites".  So what? As part of our new digital curriculum, one of the two aspects is;  “ Designing and developing digital outcomes. It  is about understanding that digital systems and applications are created for humans by humans, and developing knowledge and skills in using different digital technologies to create digital content across a range of digital media. This part of the curriculum also includes learning about the electronic components and techniques used to design digital devices." Nikki Kaye, June 2017   Goog...

The four C's

Image
What? On the 20/3/18 I attended a Google event at Noel Leaming PN. The Google leader shared the importance of the 4 C's critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. So what?  Because our learning environment has changed so much, what is important in our learning has also developed. The 4 C's were not important going back in the 90's, however, they are vital for students as they leave school in today's society. Side note: The SAMR model is model for the level and skill we are using technology.  What now?  Shifting what is important in education is a must.  The New Tech NZC asks for us to have: Computational thinking & Design and develop digital outcomes.  Using technology such as Shepro's and chromebooks is a must in order for us to engage in the new NZC tech

What: looking at teacher- student relationships. So What: Looking to develop my relationships with senior students of the school. Particularly adapting my practice to achieve better relationship within my year 8 Social Studies classes. What now: From looking at both Mr. Renyolds-Rowe and Miss Pratts class, I saw that they both have an easy going style. There were a few instances where I would've engaged in correcting a negative behaviour, however, I saw they often dismissed it, or carried on with what they were saying. What can I do? Dismiss or not engage negative behaviour as much, rather pave forward and let them chase to get up to the rest of the class.

Character Day

What: This week is 'Book Week. It is to promote reading. So What: This is a fantastic idea that engages the learner. Kids visualise characters and really get into novels, and story telling. Now what: Each student then goes and performs a character they have chosen from their book, followed by quiz and activities.
